Be sure not to miss the Goleta Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention this Sunday. David and Chris will be teaching fiddle and banjo workshops and you can hear performances by our good friends Triple Chicken Foot, the Foghorn Trio, and excellent blues guitar/mandolin guy Steve James. Plus other performances, more workshops and of course the chance to win a prize playing the instrument of your choice.
The Grinder isn’t playing an official set this year, but we shouldn’t be too hard to find jamming and having a good time, so come to the festival and stop by to say hello. More info on the festival below.
Notes:Sausage Grinder isn’t officially playing at this year’s festival, but David and Chris will be teaching fiddle and banjo workshops and the band will be there jamming and having a good time. This is one of the best old-time events of the year in Southern California so don’t miss it!
Here’s a great piece from NPR’s State of the Re:Union on the Los Angeles old-time music scene, featuring our friends Triple Chicken Foot and Susan Michaels (you can see some of the baldest members of Sausage Grinder in there if you watch closely).
We had a great time at the CTMS Equinox Festival on Sunday — we even had quite an audience for our early morning (for us) 10:20 a.m. show. David and I both taught workshops (me on banjo, David on fiddle), and I promised to post a video of the tune I taught so that folks could refer back to it.
So if you were there, here you go, and if you weren’t, I hope you get something out of this, too — it’s a quick demonstration of thumb-lead two-finger old-time banjo picking, using Doc Watson’s version of “Groundhog.” Enjoy, and leave a comment here or on YouTube if you have any questions and I’ll be glad to answer them.
Sausage Grinder will be playing a rare morning show at California Traditional Music Society’s Equinox Festival in Northridge a week from today, Sunday, September 12. We go on at 10:20 a.m., so we’ll be waking ourselves and our audience up with some peppy tunes.
Chris will be teaching an intermediate banjo workshop (probably on two-finger picking) at 11:45 a.m., and David will teach intermediate old-time fiddle at 2:15 p.m.
There will be lots of good music at the fest besides Sausage Grinder — the Foghorn Duo, Tom and Patrick Sauber, and our old-time pals Triple Chicken Foot will play, plus there are a lot more workshops to choose from, and plenty of jamming.
Come by, listen, play a tune, and don’t forget to buy a copy of our CD.

Greetings everyone! Welcome to Sausage Grinder’s new website. We’ve redesigned things to make it easier for you to find out about our upcoming shows, listen to some songs from our debut album, Delicious Moments, and, most importantly, to purchase said album. We need the money. All that sausage ain’t free.
The new blog format will also make it easier to share with you some of our favorite musical performances, commercials for ridiculous kitchen products, psychedelic comedy, and selected excerpts of episodes of The $20,000 Pyramid.
So we hope to hear from you and see you often here at sausagegrindermusic.com.
